I made dishcloths

. . . . we had a swap on the Crafty threads 'n' yarns forum for dishcloths! - I made these over the weekend and posted them yesterday. We also had to send a clue as to our identity, which is what the card is for - not that it was too difficult to guess!!!!

We're off into the great unknown for a couple of days, so don't miss us too much, and we'll be back at the weekend!!!

(Short message to parents after your visit today:- you will be pleased to know that having doused the dog in bicarb of soda and given her a darn good rub, she smells a lot more approachable now!!!!!)

Weekend!

Well the snow's all gone and it really is a beautiful day here! - I want to get out in the garden today, and start some well needed weeding - particularly out in my little front strip - which is quite frankly an embarassment!!! (If I can stand the shame of the starting postition, I will post pictures of my achievements!) I hate gardening in the front garden - I live on a main road - the main road into Guildford town, so it seems the whole world walks or drives past - and everyone needs to make a comment!! - I am a solitary individual, and it annoys me that people find it necessary to talk to me while I'm in my own private grounds, this is one of the reasons it doesn't get done! But it's not good enough really, and today I will put it to rights! - There are some little crocuses coming up which will be completely choked with grass and weeds if I don't do something quickly!

This is a little "keep warm" hat I made for my "very nearly" 3 year old nephew last weekend! I wanted to try a bit of colourwork to find out how I did with it, and what way was comfortable to hold the yarns, so this lovely little project was perfect!

It was made with Garnstudio/Drops Karisma Superwash , on 4.00mm bamboo DPN's, using this pattern! - I missed a couple of rows out by mistake, but nobody except me will ever know!

Have a nice weekend everyone!

In with the "in Crowd"

Along with the rest of the knitting community, I have made Fetching from knitty.!! They are made in Catalina Baby Alpaca, which is just gorgeous. I bought it at Ally Pally last year, and I don't think it's sold in this country yet, but I know the owner was hoping it would be! So do I, it's soooo soft and lovely!

I did make them a bit longer than the pattern, although I wish I'd made them even longer and a tiny bit tighter at the top. But they're snuggly and cuddly and just what a woman needs as the weather turns a little colder!

Shake Anyone????

It's a tragedy!!!! - They have opened one of those fancy milk-shake stores in town, and I am hooked!!!!! - Do you know the ones I mean? - They make shakes out of vanilla ice cream, milk and a generous helping of your favourite choc bar/biscuit/cereal/cake? The menu seems endless and includes delights such as Black Jack, After Eight, SHerbert Fountain, Apple Pie, Ginger Nuts. . . . . They whizz it all up in a blender and there you are, increased hip sizes in an instant!!!!

It should be noted that I'm not the only one that seems to like it!!!!

Treasure!!

Well here we are at my first “blogalong” post. The blogalong, is an idea pioneered by members of the bloggers' paradise forum. The idea being that once a month we all blog with a pre-determined title. The title can obviously be interpreted in any way to suit the blogger. January’s title is Treasure (as suggested by Knitbert!)

Well now, as it happens I have a real live treasure chest in my spare room. . . . . see. . . .

The chest itself is quite a treasure. I “inherited” it from a Great Auntie. It was in a dreadful state, and I spent weeks cleaning the years of grime off it, sanding it down, and polishing it to within an inch of its life!! It still smells of mothballs (about 10 years later!) and I don’t think I will ever change that, but I have grown to like the smell now!

Inside my treasure chest are all my treasures!!!!! It is a memory box, and within it’s mothbally interior are all manner of things that I have collected that represent stages in my life – or indeed the life of others. . . . . .

For example, this, is the most amazing treasure, and was instrumental in the existence of my own memory box. This is a photocopy of a notebook which was written by my great-great grandfather on a Voyage to India on board the Golden Fleece, in 1865 where he served with the 16th Queen’s Lancers. There had been an onboard publication, but it seems not enough paper was supplied and so he diligently copied each issue into his notebook. I am slowly trying to transcribe the notebook into a computer friendly document for other members of the family, and in order that in years to come when paper is no longer an available medium, it is still available to future generations. Not an easy task as the handwriting is old-fashioned, in ink and the pages were somewhat faded after all these years – and it’s a photocopy. (I should add that my dear Dad has the original, which is a brown paper wrapped notebook)

A couple of final little treasures . . . . . . both by my Dear Uncle Jon, who passed away in 1996. The book was written for my cousins in Australia, but all of us nieces and nephews were given a copy when it was found in his “special box” after he died. It’s really special! The rattle was also made by Uncle Jon when I was born, and I have kept it ever since!!! There are loads of other little bits and pieces that are in my chest and each and every one of them is a treasure. There was one little one that I wanted to photograph but can’t find – I’m sure it’s in there somewhere, but it was a birthday card made by another Uncle, who lives in Australia. It had a self-drawn cartoon on the front of a man juggling a number 9, but has dropped it and caught it on his foot through the hoop of the 9. Inside is a poem, and to this day I can remember it:-

One is the beginning,
Two to show the way
Three the do’s and don’ts of life
Four a summer’s day
Five you play at learning
Six you learn our sums
Seven is skating on the ice
And Eight a new school comes

And Now you’ve reached the age of 9
And many more will rise
So don’t change the way you are
Nor the sparkle in your eyes

What more treasure can there be in life????

January's Sockamonth

As previously mentioned I have signed up on the crafty yarns & threads forum to try to knit a pair of socks a month for this year! - It's a great idea, and amazing how much more dedicated you are to knitting them when you are knitting to a dealine!!!

Anyway here is the progress on January's, Knitted in Opal on 2.5mm bamboo DPN's (I did try 2 circs but having dropped a whole needle full of stitches, twice, I decided to stick to the old fashioned approach!) The pattern is slipped stitch rib from sensational knitted socks.

A bit quiet for the New Year

All's a bit quiet here, as my poor pooch has cut half her foot off having run over a bit of glass that some lovely person (read your own interpretation for that!) left out on our walk! It's horrid and has made me go quite queasy on several occassions! - I am regularly drowning it in salt water, and bless her she is being very good natured about it. Me, on the other hand, . . . . I am upset, emotional, and ready to lynch anyone I see carrying a bottle!!!!!!
